SimCity Social is now in open beta, and you can start building your own city right away. As mayor, you are given a variety of tasks that are broken up into chapters. Here’s your guide for the first chapter: “Home Sweet Home”
This guide for Chapter 1 may seem a little unnecessary since the lovely Kristy Brown walks you the whole process, but I am devoted to providing as much content as I can, and skipping the first chapter would be lame. So, here we go.
What is a Task? What is a Chapter?
Just like in The Sims Social, new and uncompleted tasks appear on the left side of your screen while playing. To complete the introductory walkthrough, you have to complete the first chapter. However, you don’t have to keep doing them. You can go about your regular mayoral duties and ignore the tasks altogether. But if you do this, you will miss out on opportunities to unlock new areas of the game and opportunities to build a bigger, better city. Chapters are made up of a collection of similar tasks. This guide is for task 1 of “Home Sweet Home.”
Complete Your First Task
After you click on Kristy’s head, a screen pops up showing you the details of the task at hand.
“You want me to do what?”
As shown in this pop-up, your task in Chapter 1 is to collect Simoleons and collect materials. The blurb at the top informs you that this is how the economy functions — like a garden. Reap and sow, reap and sow. You collect money (Simoleons) and materials from your city and then use those resources to reinvest into the city so that it will grow and produce more.
How to Make Money in SimCity Social
Making money is an important part of any government. You need funds to finance your advancements (and exploits). It turns out that your citizens are a pretty cooperative bunch; collecting money in SimCity Social is quite easy if you follow Kristy’s instructions.
To make money in SimCity Social, simply find businesses with Simoleon symbol over its building. Click the symbol to collect your Simoleons.
How to Stockpile Materials in SimCity Social
Stockpiling materials in SimCity Social is almost the same exact process as making money. But instead of looking for a Simoleon symbol, when you’re collecting materials, you’re looking for the boxed goods symbol over factories.
To stockpile the materials, and complete the first chapter, just click on the highlighted boxed goods symbol to finish “Home Sweet Home.”
Your Reward
After you complete a task or chapter, you will be rewarded with various items, depending on the task or chapter. The first screen of this chapter showed the reward as 100 Simoleons and 3 blue stars for completing this first task.
Your rewards are saved to the Inventory.
These rewards are stored in your Inventory for retrieval at your convenience.
Complete Your Second Task
After completing the first task in Chapter 1, you will be able to name your town, build your mayor’s mansion, and buy an arch if you want to. It’s entirely up to you.
But before you are entirely finished of Chapter 1, there is another task that you must complete.
To finish Chapter 1 “Home Sweet Home,” you must build a welcome sign, build five homes, and reach a target population of 150. Your population will increase as you add homes, businesses, and attractions. You should have already learned how to build homes. To build a welcome sign, click on the “Go to Shop” button to purchase a sign.
If you “liked” SimCity Social‘s Facebook page during the pre-launch period, you may have one of these signs already. Otherwise, it’ll cost you 1,000 Simoleons. Like other attractions in the game, placing the sign close to other buildings will have positive cumulative effects on your population and productivity.
Completing Task 2 and Finishing “Home Sweet Home”
Once you complete the three items on this task, you will finish Chapter 1 of SimCity Social: “Home Sweet Home.”
With the first chapter under your mayoral belt, you should feel confident in your abilities to complete chapters as quickly as you want to.
